This process involves the separation of water into its elements, hydrogen and oxygen, when an external electric current (electricity from renewable sources) is applied. In this way, <strong>renewable electricity will be stored in the form of hydrogen.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1919&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;zoom&#8221;][vc_empty_space]<blockquote class=\"text-normal shortcode-blockquote block-style-widget\"><h3 style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><span style=\"color: #59b006;\">Thanks to electrolysis, renewable electricity will be stored in the form of hydrogen.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>[vc_empty_space][vc_separator][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Benefits and disadvantages of electrolysis<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]The <strong>benefits<\/strong> of this process is that it produces no waste and is completely renewable.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>One of the major <strong>disadvantages<\/strong> is the price of the hydrogen produced. The current price of <a href=\"https:\/\/ideatsg.com\/idea-green\/que-es-el-hidrogeno-verde\/\">green hydrogen<\/a> production from a renewable energy source is around 5-8 \u20ac\/kg, but this cost (OPEX) depends mainly on the price of renewable energies, therefore it is estimated that this price will be reduced in the <strong>coming years as the cost of the renewable energies decreases<\/strong>, making it competitive with hydrogen from fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1917&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_circle_2&#8243;][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cost of manufacturing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]In the last decade, electrolytic <strong>technology<\/strong> for green hydrogen production has been greatly <strong>improved<\/strong> and has reached commercial development, but <strong>improvements are still needed<\/strong> to enable its expansion.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]These technologies still need to be improved in order to <strong>increase their efficiency<\/strong> and <strong>reduce their CAPEX cost<\/strong>. This cost includes the cost of the electrolyser, but also the cost of the plant (current converters, water accumulators, pressurisers, auxiliary systems).[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]This <strong>price depends<\/strong> largely on the increased manufacturing of electrolysers and an increase in their capacity.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>For example<\/strong>, the price of an electrolyser + Plant Balance of a 200 kW proton-conducting polymeric membrane electrolysis (PEM) system producing 10 units is approximately \u20ac 1100 \/ kW.<\/p>\n<p>However, the price of an electrolyser + Balance of Plant of a 1 MW PEM system producing 1000 units is reduced to approximately 237 \u20ac\/kW.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #999999;\">[<em>Manufacturing Cost Analysis for Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers<\/em>, NREL, 2019]<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1921&#8243;
